Turn a DOI list into APA 7 references
DOI to APA retrieves the bibliographic record behind each identifier and formats a readable APA 7 reference list. Paste one DOI or doi.org URL per line, keep APA 7 selected as the destination and convert. This page is intended for batches of identifiers. First compare each returned title with the work you intended to cite. Then review author order, publication date, source type and container details. A DOI resolves publication identity more precisely than a title search, but the associated metadata can still be incomplete. Keep track of failed lines so a partially successful batch does not become a reference list that silently omits a paper you used.
Worked example: DOI to a complete book reference
The input 10.1037/0000168-000 identifies the book used in the official APA book example already documented by this citation family. The reference begins with Jackson’s surname and initials, then 2019 in parentheses. The title uses sentence case, the second edition appears separately and the DOI is presented as a URL. The example below is plain text; title italics need to be preserved or restored in your destination document.
This illustrates a book, not every work registered with a DOI. A journal article additionally needs the journal title, volume and available issue and page information. A chapter needs its container and appropriate contributor details. Check the returned source type before judging punctuation against the book example. The existence of a DOI does not make all publications use the same reference pattern.

Author, date and title checks before copying
APA reference entries and in-text citations have different author treatments. Do not shorten the stored creator list to et al. just because a short citation in your prose uses that abbreviation. Keep the full supplied author metadata and let the selected CSL style format the reference. For a corporate author, verify that the organization remains a single creator rather than being split into a personal given name and surname.
Use the publication date from the work, not today’s date or a website footer year. If a field is absent, inspect the publication rather than inventing it. Check sentence-case titles for proper nouns and abbreviations, and distinguish a journal’s title from an article’s title. Preserve the DOI URL when available. The converter formats metadata; it does not verify that the work supports the statement beside which you plan to cite it.
Choose formatted text or a reusable bibliography file
APA output is useful when you need references ready to review and place in a document. BibTeX or RIS is preferable when a reference manager or LaTeX project should retain structured fields for later changes of style. A formatted list is not a manager database and does not maintain live links to citations in your manuscript. Review alphabetical ordering and document layout when you combine this batch with references from other sources.

What if an author or date is missing?
Review the original publication and provider record. Do not enter a guessed author, the lookup date or a copyright footer year. If you need to correct individual metadata fields, use manual citation entry and preserve the verified DOI for identification.
What if only some DOIs work?
Successful records and failed lines should be reviewed separately. Correct malformed identifiers and retry temporary provider failures. An unresolved DOI does not establish that a source was fabricated, and a successful lookup does not establish that its findings are reliable.
Where are the records retrieved?
Crossref supplies DOI metadata, with DataCite as the fallback for a missing Crossref record. The selected CSL style formats those fields into APA references. This process uses metadata lookup and deterministic formatting, not AI-generated bibliographic details.
How should I copy the references into my paper?
Copy or download the output, then check italics, hanging indents and ordering in your editor. Plain text cannot retain every visual style. Review the full bibliography after combining sources; this page does not upload a file or insert references into your manuscript.
